Registration for the 3rd annual Door County Pond Hockey Tournament opens Aug. 1.
The fast-growing tournament returns to the ice of Kangaroo Lake in Baileys Harbor Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016. From Aug. 1 – 15, registration is open only to teams that participated in the first two years of the tournament. On Aug. 16, registration is open to all interested teams.
2016 Tournament Registration Form
The tournament has drawn teams from Green Bay, Madison, Chicago, and Minnesota in its first two years. The 2016 tourney will feature women’s divisions for the first time.
Pond hockey is a pickup version of hockey, with four players to a side and no goalies. Pond hockey is a game of finesse, with no checking, played the way you grew up learning the game.
“We’re really excited for this year’s event,” said tournament founder Brian Fitzgerald. “Players love coming to Door County to participate, and it’s great working with the Baileys Harbor Community Association and Door County Brewing Co. to put on a first class winter weekend.”
The tournament takes place in conjunction with the Baileys Harbor Winter Carnival, giving families the opportunity to enjoy much more than a hockey tournament. A beer and food tent will be erected on the ice as well.
This year’s tourney features the following six divisions: Men’s Open A (Pro, college, or junior level players), Men’s Open B (high school, organized, or recreational players), Classic (40 and over), Legends (50 and over), Women’s Open A, and Women’s Open B.
The event is organized by the Peninsula Pacers, the group behind the Door County Half Marathon, Door County Beer Festival, and the Peninsula Century Rides.
Rosters, waivers, and $290 team registration fees must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 1. You can also email Brian Fitzgerald at brianfitzgerald67@gmail.com for more information.
